Postmodern Minimalism in Metal Art

What turns me on to the art world, and more specifically, to abstract art is the expression of moods or ideas through simple shapes and colors.  Modern welded sculpture, being an additive sculpting technique, offers limitless options in 3D expression.  The artist who improves their metal working and painting skills is rewarded with more possibilities of creating.

As seen with this postmodern minimalist welded steel assembly, the skillful arrangement of simple shapes and primary colors can add interest and a sophisticated dynamic to any room!

Mid Century Brazed Nail Art

Artwork using brazed square nails is only limited by the imagination of the artisan.  Take this mid century dimensional wall art as an example.  It is long and slender with a rather ornate design accent near the bottom.

On closer examination, one can see the diamond shaped frame for the hemisphere is coated in bronze brazing alloy.  This is to enhance the metallic contrast prevalent in this piece.

Postmodern Metal Wall Art

Sometimes an artist will see a stack of raw materials and be able to “flesh out” the finished art in their mind.  Other times, loved ones and friends will offer ideas along the way.  This postmodern abstract metal wall art is a combination of these.  The bright primary blue, red, black and white set up a Mondrian mood while the bare steel frame and accent emphasizes the cool sleek aesthetic of the chosen medium.

Found object Industrial Metal Wall Art

This Found Object Industrial Wall Decor is my latest completed metal work.  It is an assemblage of scrap angle iron, brazed square cut nails, older painted bar stock, and other miscellaneous steel scrap.  It is arranged in an eye catching pattern and the background portion is painted in a warm iron oxide red gloss enamel.

Orange 3D table Sculpture

I finally got all the 3D forms I had lying in separate areas for years and decided to put them together in one 3D geometric sculpture.  I could not resist the temptation to paint this whole thing in gloss orange.

Contemporary Stainless Steel Wall Art

had this bundle of square 304 stainless steel square bars I purchased in St. Louis in March of this year.   I got tired of constantly moving them out of my way.  They needed to do something for me.  So, I spent a week mentally picturing what I wanted to create.  I wanted a grid pattern with various accents.  Unfortunately, my jig setup did not pan out due to technical issues. I messed up.  Out of frustration, I started  welding some rods at an angle to create a distorted grid.  I actually preferred this and went with it.  My new contemporary stainless steel wall sculpture was born.   I opened a new door to a new accent.  A single large stainless ring.  I chose not to color it as I’m staying with a brushed metal finish.

Squidoo is now a piece of S*%$%t!

I have been writting on squidoo for nearly 15 months. I like to write about the tools and  techniques I use in my art.  I was only getting $2 monthly but I only had got up to 70 lenses.  It was something I believed that if I just wrote 200 or 300 more lenses, I could get a decent part time check.  Recently, that all changed.  They announcex they will be scanning lenses for spam and keyword stuffing.  At first I said that is a good idea.  That was until they l locked down 8 of my perfectly OK lenses for NO REASON!  I saw the writing on the wall and knew that I will be  spending much more time editing than writing new content. Therefore I will be stuck making $2 FOREVER!  Not going to happen.  My content will just have to sit and rot in cyberspace.  I did the same with Hubpages.  I am just waiting until next year when my earnings reach $50 which is their
minimum payout. I will delete all the hubs and save the good stuff  on my external hard drive. I just have to vent but I needed to face reality that it was never going work out.
